Specialist Disability Accommodation(SDA) in NDIS

NDIS Funding

The initial stage involves verifying whether the applicant satisfies the eligibility criteria for the NDIS. To meet eligibility requirements, the applicant must have:

  • A permanent and/ or significant disability.
  • Be between 7-65 years of age.
  • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

Once an applicant meets eligibility criteria, the next stage is to make an access request to the NDIS. This can be done by:

  • Completing an access request form
  • Providing supporting documentation (e.g. medical reports, assessments, and evidence of disability)

Upon approval of the access request, successful applicants will be extended an invitation for a planning meeting facilitated by either an NDIS planner or a local area coordinator. The objective of this meeting is to delve into the applicant’s specific needs and collaboratively devise an individualized support plan. This discussion covers various aspects of the applicant’s life, such as daily activities, social engagement, employment objectives, and any pertinent health considerations.

By gaining a comprehensive understanding of the applicant’s circumstances, the planning meeting aims to create a personalized support plan that not only addresses immediate needs but also aligns with their long-term goals. The interactive and inclusive nature of the meeting ensures active participation from the applicant, fostering a sense of ownership in shaping their NDIS journey. Ultimately, the planning meeting serves as a pivotal step in the NDIS process, facilitating the development of an effective and tailored support plan.

The support plan lays the objectives, requirements, and necessary assistance for the applicant. It encompasses a spectrum of potential support, ranging from financial provisions for disability-related equipment, therapies, to services such as support workers and personal care. Periodic reviews of the plan are conducted, enabling adaptations to align with any shifts in the applicant’s needs and aspirations over time. T

This flexibility ensures that the support plan remains dynamic and responsive, evolving alongside the changing circumstances and goals of the individual it serves.

Upon the approval of the NDIS plan, the applicant gains the ability to commence availing the supports and services specified within the plan. Furthermore, they are afforded the autonomy to make choices regarding the selection of service providers and the management of their allocated funding.

This empowerment allows individuals to tailor their support experience according to their preferences and needs, fostering a personalized approach to the utilization of NDIS resources. By providing the flexibility to choose service providers and determine the funding management strategy, the NDIS ensures that participants have the agency to shape their support journey in a manner that aligns with their unique goals and preferences.
